• RIMS is a proof-of-concept research application. While it isn't as polished as a commercial package, we have found it quite useful and hope you will too.
• The README file contains important information regarding installation, system requirements, and the software license.
• If you have trouble running RIMS, find bugs, or have suggestions, please submit e-mail to rims-software@keckcaves.org with the subject heading RIMS. Please do not e-mail the authors directly.
• RIMS only runs in Windows. Mac/Linux versions are under development.
• To obtain the source code, please contact the authors.

• DEMO version: The DEMO automatically loads preprocessed data (a DEM and an ASTER image from Death Valley, CA) that are provided with the demo. This is the fastest way to play with RIMS and see if it might be useful for you. You'll need to download the manual and troubleshooting guide separately (see below).

• RELEASE version: The RELEASE version runs from the Windows command line and requires you to load your own data that have been preprocessed using Quadbuild.exe. The Quadbuild program is distributed with the release version of RIMS. Again, you'll need to download the troubleshooting guide and the RIMS and Quadbuild manuals separately (see below).

Three barebones manuals are available:

• The Quadbuild Manual (Word or PDF) lists requirements for input files and provides instructions for creating RIMS input files by running the quadbuild tool to preprocess DEM and image data.
• RIMS Manual (Word or PDF) provides directions for launching and running both the DEMO and RELEASE versions of RIMS.
• Troubleshooting Manual (Word or PDF) provides some tips on troubleshooting Quadbuild and RIMS.

A set of TEST DATA are available. The download contains files for the same area in three different formats so that you can test your install of the RELEASE version of RIMS, your Quadbuilder installation, and your data preparation protocols.

• RIMS input format to allow you to test your RELEASE version of RIMS
• BIL format to allow you to test the Quadbuild utility
• HDF and TIF fomats (raw files) to allow you to test your procedures for generating the BIL files for preprocessing in quadbuild.

If you plan to attribute and then export your mapping to Arc, please read/review the following information first.

• RIMStoARC (Word or PDF) explains how to get your RIMS mapping into Arc. Please see the RIMS User's Guide for advice on how to map features such as thrust or normal faults so that the ticks show up on the correct side of the line.
• To get the mapped and attributed lines to display with the proper symbols in Arc you'll need to download this styles file. See the "RIMS to ARC" document on what to do with it.
• The Map Conventions sheet shows the symbols used in the styles file and the corresponding codes you enter in RIMS to get them.
